Summer is here! I know it can be tough for a lot of us, especially here in the South, to try and go for a bike ride with the scorching heats that summer brings, but not to worry! In this post, I will be giving tips and advice for how best to stay cool in that hot summer weather while still being able to enjoy the thrills of biking!

  1. Drink lots of water: There is a extremely harmful mindset in society around proving your athletic ability by purposefully denying yourself water or any kind of breaks . Please let go of that state of mind and listen to your body when it is telling you something. Passing out while biking is especially dangerous, with the added risk of injury from being out of control and falling on concrete. Make sure to pack water, along with hydration drinks and other ways to keep your energy levels up.

  2. Bring protein bars/snacks: Again, it is essential to keep your energy levels up while biking. Passing out is too dangerous of a risk when it comes to biking, and packing an extra energy boost, whether needed or not, is a good safety net in the case that it is necessary

  3. Take breaks in the shade: Coming back to the stigma, there is no shame in taking a break to catch your breath and recover from the heat. This is especially prevalent when biking with companions, but do not feel as if a need to prove yourself should override your own safety and health. Put your body over your mind for a second, and allow yourself to recover.

  4. Wear loose clothing: Wear clothing you feel comfortable in, preferably not ones that are too tight or too long. With the heavy amount of sweat you will have, make sure your clothing choices do not hinder your body's ability to move and proper airflow within your body.

That is all for today, and, as always, happy trails!
